Targeted nerve blocks could slash painkiller use after major jaw surgery

NCT ID NCT05351151

Summary

This study tested whether precise, ultrasound-guided nerve blocks could reduce pain and the need for strong opioid painkillers after corrective jaw surgery. 50 patients having jaw realignment surgery were randomly assigned to receive either these targeted nerve blocks or standard local numbing shots. Researchers measured how much opioid medication patients needed in the first two days after surgery to manage their pain.
