First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study tested a new needle-steering device to help doctors place central lines (large IVs) in the chest. Researchers compared the device to standard ultrasound guidance using a mannequin. The device helped doctors succeed on the first try more often and with fewer needle sticks. The next step is to test it in real patients.
