New hope for sickest babies: common supplement could fight deadly infection

NCT ID NCT07380347

Summary

This study aims to see if adding the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC) to standard antibiotic treatment helps newborns with sepsis get better faster. It will involve 50 newborns with a serious infection and measure if NAC reduces organ damage, shortens hospital stays, and lowers the risk of death. The goal is to control this life-threatening condition by targeting harmful inflammation and cell damage caused by the infection.
