New study tests volunteering as a cure for loneliness in mental illness

Summary
This study tests a program called 'Need to be Needed' for adults with serious mental illness who feel lonely or isolated. Over 6 months, participants in the program will work with a coach to set goals and do acts of kindness, like volunteering. The goal is to see if helping others can improve their sense of belonging and reduce loneliness.
