Could MRI make pelvic scans safer for moms-to-be?

NCT ID NCT06485323

First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study is testing whether MRI can be used instead of CT to measure the pelvis in pregnant women. CT scans use radiation, which doctors want to avoid during pregnancy. The researchers will compare the measurements from both scans in 95 women who have had a previous C-section and need a pelvic measurement for their next pregnancy. If MRI works just as well, it could become a safer option.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could make pelvic measurement safer for pregnant women by replacing CT scans with radiation-free MRI.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (95 people) focused on measurement accuracy, not on health outcomes. MRI may not be as clear as CT for this purpose.
