New MRI scan could predict jaw bone damage in cancer patients

NCT ID NCT03145077

First seen Nov 03, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a special type of MRI (DCE-MRI) can predict a serious side effect called osteoradionecrosis (jaw bone damage) in people with head and neck cancer who are receiving radiation therapy. Researchers will scan 1,400 participants before, during, and after treatment to see if the MRI can spot early signs of bone damage. The goal is to help doctors identify at-risk patients sooner and potentially prevent this complication.
