New prostate biopsy approach may cut complications and boost detection
NCT ID NCT02651948
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 32 times
Summary
This study tested a new way to biopsy the prostate using MRI guidance through the perineum (the area between the scrotum and anus) instead of the standard approach through the rectum. The goal was to see if this method causes fewer complications and hospital readmissions, and if it provides better tissue samples for diagnosis. The study included 90 men aged 40-80 with suspected prostate cancer who had already had a negative standard biopsy.
