Summary
This study compared two procedures for patients whose artificial mitral heart valve was failing. Researchers randomly assigned 150 participants to either a minimally invasive procedure using a catheter (a thin tube) to place a new valve inside the old one, or to traditional repeat open-heart surgery to replace the valve. The goal was to see which approach led to better long-term results, fewer complications, and better quality of life over a 10-year follow-up period.
