Gentler gum cleaning may help receding gums grow back

NCT ID NCT06044727

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 43 times

Summary

This study tested whether a gentler, magnified cleaning method (MINST) helps gums recover better than standard deep cleaning for early gum recession. Fifty-four adults with shallow gum recession (≤3 mm) took part. The goal was to see if MINST reduces recession depth and width and improves root coverage.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Minimally invasive non-surgical periodontal therapy (MINST) using magnifying loupes

What this could lead to

If MINST proves more effective, it could offer a less painful, more precise way to treat early gum recession and help gums grow back without surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-center study with only 54 people. Results may not apply to everyone, and the improvement in gum coverage may be small or not last long.
