Summary

This study tested whether an 8-week mindfulness program (MBSR) could improve quality of life, thinking, and mood in 107 people with Parkinson's disease. Participants were randomly assigned to MBSR or a supportive education group, with sessions held online due to COVID-19. The goal was to see if mindfulness training provides lasting benefits beyond standard care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) - a structured program of weekly group sessions and a retreat, delivered online
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a drug-free way to help people with Parkinson's feel better day-to-day and manage stress.
What could go wrong
This is a completed study with 107 participants, but results may not apply to everyone with Parkinson's. The online format during COVID may have affected outcomes.
