Wisdom tooth X-Rays may predict palate maturity, study finds
NCT ID NCT07181707
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study looked at 200 healthy people to see if the growth stage of a wisdom tooth can predict how mature the palate bone is. Currently, orthodontists often use a special CT scan to check palate maturity before certain treatments. The researchers wanted to see if a regular panoramic X-ray (which is already common) could give the same information. If the wisdom tooth stage matches the palate stage, it could simplify treatment planning and reduce the need for extra radiation from CT scans.
