Smart knees vs. falls: new trial tests computerized prosthetics for amputees
NCT ID NCT06937242
First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study looks at whether microprocessor-controlled prosthetic knees (MPKs) — knees with a built-in computer — can reduce fall-related health problems in adults who use an above-knee artificial leg. About 100 participants who already use a standard non-computerized knee will be randomly assigned to keep their current knee or receive an MPK. Researchers will track falls, mobility, walking speed, and quality of life over time to see if the smart knee offers real benefits.
