Iron infusion safety check: rare blood condition tracked in 977 patients

Summary
This completed study aimed to find out how often a rare blood condition called methemoglobinemia happens after receiving a common IV iron treatment (ferric carboxymaltose). Researchers measured blood levels of a faulty form of hemoglobin in nearly 1,000 adults with iron-deficiency anemia before and after the infusion. The results were compared with healthy people who did not get the drug to better understand the true risk.
