Diabetes drug tested to boost chemo against aggressive cancers

NCT ID NCT02122185

Summary

This study tested whether adding the common diabetes medication metformin to standard chemotherapy could better control advanced cancers of the ovary, fallopian tube, or abdominal lining. It involved 111 non-diabetic patients who were randomly assigned to receive either metformin or a placebo pill alongside their chemotherapy, followed by up to two years of the assigned pill. The main goal was to see if the metformin group experienced a longer period without their cancer getting worse.
