Mediterranean diet may ward off painful gut Flare-Ups

NCT ID NCT05681559

First seen Jun 13, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether a Mediterranean-style diet could help prevent episodes of diverticulitis, a painful digestive condition. 71 adults who had recently recovered from a diverticulitis attack were randomly assigned to follow either a Mediterranean diet or standard high-fiber advice for one year. Researchers measured how well participants stuck to the diet and tracked any new diverticulitis events, along with blood and stool markers of inflammation.
