New hope for blood disorder: trial tests targeted drug against standard therapy

Summary

This study is comparing two different drugs for adults with a type of blood and bone marrow disorder called myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) who have a specific genetic change (IDH1 mutation) and have not yet received standard treatment. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either ivosidenib (a targeted pill taken daily) or azacitidine (an injectable chemotherapy given for 7 days each month). The main goal is to see how many patients achieve remission by 4 months and to monitor survival and side effects.
