New study tests if thinking about thinking beats standard anxiety therapy

NCT ID NCT06937892

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 36 times

Summary

This study compares two types of talk therapy for adults with anxiety disorders (GAD, social anxiety, or PTSD). One is the standard cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and the other is a newer approach called metacognitive therapy (MCT), which focuses on how people think about their own thoughts. About 86 participants will receive either MCT or CBT to see which works better and is more cost-effective. The goal is to find a simpler, more powerful treatment that helps more people recover.
