Could a cancer drug help beat malaria? new trial aims to stop drug-resistant parasites

NCT ID NCT07559370

First seen May 05, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding imatinib (a cancer drug) to the standard malaria treatment can clear the parasite faster and prevent drug resistance. About 1,100 adults with mild to moderate malaria will receive either the standard 3-day treatment or a shorter 2-day combo. The goal is to see if the combo is safe, works faster, and reduces the chance of the infection coming back.
