New blood test targets hidden malaria to stop relapses
NCT ID NCT06923592
Summary
This large study is testing a new strategy to control a type of malaria that can hide in the liver and cause people to get sick again months later. In Ethiopia and Madagascar, researchers will use a new blood test to find people who were recently infected. Those who test positive will receive a targeted drug treatment aimed at killing the hidden parasites to prevent future malaria episodes. The goal is to see if this approach reduces malaria in the community over 18 months.
