Summary

Researchers are testing whether a maca root supplement, Macanity, can improve urinary symptoms and quality of life in men over 40 with lower urinary tract symptoms. The trial assigns 200 participants to take either the supplement or a placebo for 12 weeks. Men track their symptoms through questionnaires, and the study compares changes between the two groups.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
a maca root dietary supplement called Macanity
What this could lead to
If it works, men with bothersome urinary symptoms could have a natural supplement option to ease their symptoms and improve daily comfort.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial, and many supplements fail to show real benefit over placebo. Urinary symptoms can have various causes, and a supplement may not address them all.
