New injection could spare cancer patients from repeated fluid drains

NCT ID NCT06432296

First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests an experimental drug called M701, given as an injection into the belly, to see if it can reduce the need for draining fluid in patients with malignant ascites—a painful buildup of fluid caused by advanced stomach, colon, or ovarian cancer. About 312 adults aged 18 to 75 who have not responded to prior treatments will be randomly assigned to receive either M701 plus standard drainage or drainage alone. The main goal is to measure how long patients go before needing another drainage, with a focus on improving comfort and quality of life.
