Lung wash fluid may replace needles for cancer gene testing

NCT ID NCT07188480

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 38 times

Summary

This study explores whether genetic material from lung cancer cells can be collected from a lung wash (bronchoalveolar lavage) instead of a traditional biopsy. Researchers will compare the genetic test results from the wash fluid with those from standard biopsy samples in 10 people with advanced lung cancer. If successful, this could offer a less invasive way to guide targeted treatments.
