New trick during lung biopsy may prevent lung collapse

NCT ID NCT06340178

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study tests whether injecting a small amount of fluid into the chest cavity during a CT-guided lung biopsy can lower the chance of lung collapse (pneumothorax). Researchers will also position patients so the biopsy is taken from the lowest part of the lung. About 198 adults needing a lung biopsy will take part. The goal is to find a safer way to perform this common procedure.
