New colonoscopy prep: less liquid, same clean?
NCT ID NCT06514989
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 32 times
Summary
This study tested whether a low-residue nutrition powder, taken instead of a low-fiber diet, could allow people to use less bowel-cleansing liquid (2 liters instead of 3) before a colonoscopy. Over 750 adults participated. The goal was to see if the new approach cleaned the bowel just as well while causing fewer side effects like bloating or nausea.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
low-residue full nutrition formula powder
What this could lead to
If it works, this could make colonoscopy prep easier and more tolerable for patients, especially those who struggle with large amounts of laxative.
What could go wrong
This is a completed study, but the new approach might not clean the bowel as well as the standard method, potentially missing polyps or lesions.
