Can a pocket laser help tired legs run steadier?
NCT ID NCT07808814
First seen Sep 09, 2026 · Last updated Sep 10, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Researchers test whether a portable low-level laser device applied to the thigh muscles helps recreational runners recover after a quadriceps-fatiguing task. Twenty male runners receive active laser therapy or a sham treatment in a crossover design, then run on a treadmill at a fixed speed. The team measures quadriceps soreness, heart rate, and running motion using video and wearable sensors.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- portable 808-nm low-level laser therapy
- What this could lead to
- If it works, runners could use a portable laser device after hard workouts to ease quadriceps soreness and steady their stride.
- What could go wrong
- The study is small, with 20 male recreational runners, and a single 10-minute session may not change soreness or running motion. Results in this group may not apply to women, other running styles, or longer recovery periods.
