Summary

This study looked at how a low-carb diet or a standard calorie-restricted diet affects metabolic flexibility—the body's ability to switch between using carbs and fat for energy. Thirty healthy adults followed each diet for two weeks. Researchers measured breath ketones, blood sugar, and other markers to compare the effects.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Low-carbohydrate diet and standard calorie-restricted diet
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help explain how different diets affect the body's ability to switch between burning carbs and fat for energy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, short-term study in healthy adults, so results may not apply to people with health conditions or long-term diet changes.
