New ultrasound method could help diagnose lipedema

NCT ID NCT07536646

First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tested a noninvasive ultrasound technique called shear wave elastography to measure tissue stiffness in the legs and abdomen of women with lipedema, a chronic fat disorder that causes pain and swelling. Researchers compared 95 women with and without lipedema to see if this method could help diagnose the condition more accurately. The goal was to find a better way to distinguish lipedema from similar diseases like lymphedema or obesity.
