Could a common numbing drug boost recovery after colon cancer surgery?

NCT ID NCT07432399

First seen Mar 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving lidocaine (a numbing drug) or high-dose dexamethasone (a strong anti-inflammatory) during colon cancer surgery can improve the body's immune response and help patients recover better. About 100 adults having surgery for colon cancer will be randomly assigned to receive one of these drugs or a placebo. Researchers will measure immune markers in the blood and track pain and opioid use after surgery.
