First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tested whether giving the numbing drug lidocaine as a fine mist into the breathing tube during major abdominal surgery could lower the chance of serious lung complications like pneumonia. The trial included 270 adults having long, non-cardiac surgeries under general anesthesia. The goal was to see if lidocaine's anti-inflammatory effects could protect the lungs and reduce hospital stays and pain.
