Licorice root compound tested as natural skin soother

NCT ID NCT07286487

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tests whether a compound from licorice root, called glycyrrhetinic acid, can reduce redness, dryness, and irritation on human skin. Researchers will apply a mild irritant to create a small patch of dermatitis on 30 healthy adults, then treat it with a cream containing the licorice compound. The goal is to see if it can calm inflammation and help the skin barrier recover, offering a natural alternative to steroid creams.
