Simple leg exercises boost strength in schizophrenia patients with muscle loss

NCT ID NCT07183969

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a 16-week lower body strength training program could improve physical performance in people with chronic schizophrenia who also have sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss). Researchers screened 78 patients in a psychiatric hospital, then split them into two groups: one did leg exercises, the other received usual care. Results measured walking speed, balance, chair stand ability, quality of life, and falls. The goal was to find a drug-free way to help patients stay independent and slow muscle decline.
