New study tests if leak checks during colon surgery prevent serious complications

NCT ID NCT06865638

First seen Apr 22, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study compares two approaches during colorectal cancer surgery: leak testing (using a scope, air, and blue dye) versus no leak testing. The goal is to see if leak testing lowers the chance of a dangerous leak where the bowel is reconnected. About 264 adults having colorectal cancer surgery will take part, and their outcomes will be tracked for 30 days after surgery.
