Partial spleen removal may boost immunity in cirrhosis patients

NCT ID NCT07205471

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study looks at whether removing only part of the spleen (instead of the whole spleen) can improve immune function in people with liver cirrhosis who have an overactive spleen (hypersplenism). The researchers will measure immune markers and blood counts before and after surgery in 30 adults. The goal is to see if this less extensive surgery leads to better outcomes without the need for lifelong medication.
