Summary

This study tests whether L-theanine, a natural amino acid found in green tea, can improve REM sleep behavior disorder, gut function, and inflammation in people with early-stage Parkinson's disease. Participants take L-theanine or a placebo alongside a Mediterranean diet for four weeks. The goal is to see if this supplement can ease common non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
L-theanine (green tea amino acid) combined with a Mediterranean diet
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple dietary supplement to improve sleep, gut health, and inflammation in people with early Parkinson's disease.
What could go wrong
This is a small, short (4-week) early-stage trial. The supplement may not produce meaningful benefits, and results may not apply to more advanced Parkinson's.
