NCT ID NCT03959098
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 38 times
Summary
This observational study is testing whether integrative Korean medicine—combining herbal medicine and Chuna manual therapy—can safely reduce pain and improve quality of life in 120 adults with cervical disc herniation and radiculopathy. Participants receive treatment at four Korean medicine hospitals, and researchers track changes in neck and arm pain, function, and work loss over four months. The study does not include a placebo or comparison group, so results will show real-world outcomes but cannot prove the treatment works better than other options.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Herbal medicine (Ostericum koreanum, Eucommia ulmoides, and others) and Chuna manual therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that integrative Korean medicine helps reduce neck and arm pain and improve function in people with cervical disc herniation.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study without a comparison group, so results may not prove effectiveness. It is also limited to specific herbal formulas and manual therapy, which may not work for everyone.
