New study aims to free kidney transplant patients from lifelong medications

NCT ID NCT03707262

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tests a new treatment for people who get a kidney from a brother or sister. After the transplant, patients receive radiation and a drug, followed by an infusion of the donor's blood stem cells. The goal is to see if this helps the body accept the kidney so that patients can safely stop taking anti-rejection medicines. The study involves 15 participants and will check if they can stop all immunosuppressive drugs one year after transplant.
