Could a common supplement and an HIV drug unlock oral ketamine for depression?

NCT ID NCT07462559

First seen Mar 11, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looks at whether cannabidiol (CBD) and cobicistat (a drug that boosts other medications) can increase the amount of ketamine that reaches the bloodstream when taken by mouth. Ketamine is used for hard-to-treat depression but is usually given by IV because oral doses are poorly absorbed. The trial will involve 12 healthy volunteers who take a small oral dose of ketamine alone, with CBD, with cobicistat, or with both. Researchers will measure ketamine levels in the blood and monitor side effects to see if this combination could make oral ketamine a practical treatment.
