New catheter could help doctors spot brain oxygen problems faster after cardiac arrest

NCT ID NCT06511999

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests a special catheter that continuously measures oxygen levels in blood leaving the brain of comatose patients after cardiac arrest. Current methods require drawing blood and sending it to a lab, which takes time. The new catheter provides instant readings, which could help doctors detect and treat brain oxygen problems sooner. The study will enroll 25 adults to see if the catheter is accurate and easy to use.
