IV iron may cut transfusions in scoliosis surgery for Iron-Deficient teens

NCT ID NCT07217873

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 38 times

Summary

This study tests if giving intravenous (IV) iron before spinal fusion surgery can reduce the need for blood transfusions in teens with scoliosis who are also iron deficient. About 120 participants aged 10-19 will receive either IV iron or a placebo before their scheduled surgery. The goal is to see if correcting iron deficiency improves surgical outcomes and lowers transfusion rates.
