First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study tested whether giving iron through a vein before planned heart surgery helps people with anemia recover faster. About 955 adults with low red blood cell counts received either iron or a placebo before their operation. The main goal was to see how many days they were alive and out of the hospital in the 90 days after surgery.
