New dosing schedule could make common CF antibiotic safer for kidneys
NCT ID NCT02918409
First seen May 24, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026
Summary
This study looked at 51 adults with cystic fibrosis to compare two IV antibiotics (tobramycin and colistin) used for lung infections. The goal was to see if a new, less frequent dosing schedule for colistin could reduce kidney damage while still fighting the infection effectively. Researchers tracked lung function, kidney health, and how often patients needed to return to the hospital.
