New Heart-Zapping catheter tested to control irregular heartbeat

NCT ID NCT05552963

Summary

This study tested a new medical device that uses brief electrical pulses (Irreversible Electroporation or IRE) to treat a specific type of irregular heartbeat called paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AFib). The goal was to see if this procedure could safely control the irregular heartbeat for a year without patients needing to continue their anti-arrhythmic medications. It involved 142 participants whose AFib had not been controlled by at least one prior medication.
