Bone needle beats traditional IV in emergency race?

NCT ID NCT01235078

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 11, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looked at a special needle that goes into the bone (intraosseous) to deliver fluids and medicines quickly in the emergency room. Researchers compared it to the usual method of placing a central line in a large vein. They wanted to see if the bone needle was faster and had fewer complications. About 105 patients who needed urgent access took part.
