Study tests halving insulin dose for dangerous potassium spikes
NCT ID NCT06036823
Summary
This study compared whether 5 units of insulin works as well as the standard 10 units for quickly lowering dangerously high potassium levels in emergency patients. Researchers enrolled 384 adults who came to the emergency room with high potassium and randomly gave them either dose along with sugar solution. They measured potassium levels and checked for low blood sugar risks over two hours to see if the smaller dose was equally effective and possibly safer.
