Stitch showdown: can a simple change in suturing prevent hernias after liver surgery?

NCT ID NCT04982653

First seen Nov 10, 2025 · Last updated May 26, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study tests whether a specific short-stitch closing method can reduce the chance of developing an incisional hernia after open liver surgery for cancer. About 140 adults having liver tumor removal will be randomly assigned to receive either the short-stitch or the traditional suture technique. Researchers will track hernia rates using scans at 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery.
