New study: early birth control implant safe for breastfeeding moms
NCT ID NCT03978598
First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 32 times
Summary
This study looked at 150 women who wanted both a contraceptive implant (Nexplanon) and to breastfeed. Half got the implant within 24 hours of giving birth, the other half waited 4-6 weeks. Researchers checked if early insertion changed breastfeeding rates at 8 weeks after delivery. The goal was to see if immediate placement is just as good for breastfeeding as waiting.
