First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study tested a computer system called i-ROP DL that automatically checks eye images from premature babies for signs of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), a condition that can cause blindness. Researchers looked at over 1,200 infants to see how well the system could spot more than mild ROP compared to expert doctors. The goal is to make screening easier and more consistent in hospital nurseries.
