New PET scan could sharpen detection of thyroid cancer spread

NCT ID NCT06961084

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests whether a newer type of PET scan (I-124 PET/CT) is better at finding thyroid cancer that has spread than the usual imaging methods (I-123 and I-131 scans). About 62 people with thyroid cancer will get both scans, and doctors will compare the results. The goal is to see if the new method can spot cancer more accurately, which could help guide treatment decisions.
