New imaging combo could reveal hidden tumor oxygen levels

NCT ID NCT04031534

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looked at 16 people with a type of throat cancer (oropharynx squamous cell carcinoma). Researchers compared two imaging methods—PET scans and MRI—to measure oxygen levels (hypoxia) in tumors. They also checked tissue samples to see if the scans matched what was seen under a microscope. The goal was to better understand how to spot low-oxygen areas in tumors, which can affect treatment response.
