Scientists probe why statins might rob muscles of a key protector

NCT ID NCT02908425

Summary

This study aimed to understand how cholesterol-lowering statin drugs affect the body's processing of a compound called HMB, which may help protect muscle mass. Researchers enrolled 13 healthy adults aged 65-80 who were already taking statins. They measured how quickly HMB and related substances appeared in the participants' blood and urine to see if statins changed their normal metabolism.
